ALSC CO-FOUNDERS

ROBERTO ALLEN (BUBBA)

 

Roberto “Coach Bubba” Allen, an Educator for the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), is one of the Co-Founders for The Academy of Learning, Strength and Conditioning (ALSC), where he is the Director of Recruiting, Academic/After School Programs and Camps. Allen played high school football before moving on to play two seasons with the Vanier College Cheetahs in Montreal. He is currently the President and Jr Varsity Head Coach for the Scarborough Thunder OVFL team. Allen has won several championships at all levels, both as a player and a coach. He won a PeeWee (U-15) Provincial Championship in 2001 as a first-year Head Coach and won two Regional Championships with Agincourt Collegiate Institute while serving as their Offensive Coordinator from 2009 to 2012. Coach Bubba is also one of the most recognized football coaches in Ontario, especially in the GTA, coaching on many All-Star teams over the years, notably the OVFL All-Stars, OPC All-Stars and All Canada Gridiron GTA All-Stars.  

 

Allen was named a runner-up for 2011 NFL Youth Coach of the Year, an award designed to recognize community or high school coaches across Canada who use football to make a positive impact on their communities. He was nominated by current Denver Broncos offensive lineman Orlando Franklin, who was introduced to football by Allen. Allen is an energetic person who is very passionate when it comes to working with youths and adolescents. Despite the many football games and championships Allen won as a coach, where he takes pride in, is seeing the young men whom he has coached and mentored over the years, move on to be successful people in life.

PAUL BLACKWOOD (BLACKS)

 

Paul Blackwood has an exceptional history of playing football at the intercollegiate and professional level with great success. Paul played college football with the Cincinnati Bearcats and signed a pro football contract with the BC Lions.  Paul's passion, experience and focus on success lead the way in the development of the ALSC-The Health Institute joint venture nestled in the Guildwood Scarborough region.

In addition to giving back to the community Paul has developed a keen interest in developing elite athletes focusing on strength, speed and agility.  Paul's vision to provide elite sport specific training, corrective exercises for rehabilitation, sport specific nutritional coaching and physical therapy all under one roof creates the ideal place to succeed as an athlete.  Coach Blackwoods motto is "Head Strong, Body Strong".


 

GERRY MARTINEZ

 

Gerry Martinez finished college football at Minnesota State University and signed a professional football contract with Toronto Argonauts in 1994. Gerry is responsible for North American sports recruiting and played an instrumental role in getting a number of youths into United States prep schools and USA universities most notable Wesley Annan, Stanford University. 

PAUL SWABY 

 

Paul Swaby has been involved in sport specific training along with strength and conditioning for over 25 years. As a former athlete, Mr. Swaby is fully aware of what it takes to be a professional athlete in one of the most physical sports in North America. Paul attended and played football at West Alabama and Minnesota State Universities. In 1994 Paul Swaby signed a professional football contract with the Toronto Argonauts.

Besides developing the physical frame of aspiring professional athletes, Paul provides the mental aspect of sport and physical training.

He has inspired University, TDSB, Durham school board students and multiple businesses within the corporate sector within the Greater Toronto Area and is looking forward to pursuing new challanges as the Co-director of Sport Specific Training of the combined companies ALSC-The Health Institute.

Pauls motto: "It's a relentless pursuit in order to achieve high levels of performance consistently."
